St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was a Christian missionary, who changed Ireland to Christianity in the A.D 400s. The purpose of St. Patrick's Day is so that the Irish people who came to America can still connect with their roots on this holiday. We use green because St. Patrick used a shamrock to explain the trinity. People spend their time eating and drinking on this holiday. There is a legend that if you wear green a leprechaun can't see or pinch you, but now it's used as an excuse to pinch other people who aren't wearing green.
